I have struck it big in the White House. The Washington Post has a story about the latest in White House Christmas decorations--a rather gorgeous room now dominated by books stacked up in the form of a Christmas Tree. One of the books is Tainted Evidence, one of mine. Apparently Melania was behind this idea--Trump brags that he never reads, and the explanation by Melania or someone is that the books were chosen by the color of their covers. I always hated this title which was imposed on me by my agent and my publisher. My original was "Night Falls On Manhattan" which was also the title of the movie Sidney Lumet later made from it. It's the story of some Harlem detectives, a female prosecutor, there's a love story too, and its focus is the trial of a black thug who shoots 6 cops trying to arrest him. In court his lawyer pleads self defense and the jury finds him not guilty. The White House Christmas Tree is a nice idea and it looks nice. For me a momentary lift, not too high. Picked for the color of its cover indeed. It's nice to know the book still exists, and that someone in the White House must have been reading it at some point. And so I put this short note on Facebook, and also here. No sense not bragging a bit.
